Myles Jack is 5th Pick of Second Round

April 30, 2016 | Football

Linebacker Myles Jack was selected on Friday night with the 36th overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft after the Jacksonville Jaguars traded up to make him the fifth selection of the second round on Friday.

Jack played three games this past season for the Bruins before suffering an injury during the practice week for game four. He was credited with 15 tackles and an interception.  In 2014, he started all 13 games at linebacker and was named second-team all-conference. Jack placed second on the team with 88 tackles, 8.0 for loss and had seven pass defenses. He also totaled 28 rushing attempts on the season for 113 yards and three touchdowns.

Jack broke onto the college football scene in 2013 by starting 12 games, 11 at linebacker and one at running back. He became the first player in league history to be named both the Offensive and Defensive Freshman of the Year. He was named first-team Freshman All-American after recording 75 tackles (second-most ever by a Bruin true freshman player behind only Kenny Easley) and 267 rushing yards. He led the team with 11 pass defenses and scored seven rushing touchdowns, including a true freshman record four in a game vs. Washington. In his first game on offense, at Arizona, he rushed six times for 120 yards, including a 66-yard scoring dash. The coaches selected him to the second-team All-Pac-12 squad.

It is the third straight year that at least one Bruin linebacker has been drafted in the first or second rounds (2015 – Eric Kendricks, Rd. 2-#45; 2014 – Anthony Barr, Rd. 1-#9, Jordan Zumwalt, Rd. 6-#192).

NFL Draft coverage continues on Saturday at 9 a.m. PT on NFL Network and ESPN/ESPN2 with selections for rounds four, five, six and seven.
