UCLA Selected Third in Pac-12 Preseason Poll

October 12, 2017 | Men's Basketball

SAN FRANCISCO – The UCLA men's basketball team has been chosen third in the Pac-12 Conference's preseason media poll, as announced at Pac-12 media day on Thursday.

Arizona was selected first in this season's preseason poll, receiving 22 of 23 possible first-place votes. USC was picked to finished second, securing one first-place vote.

UCLA was picked third, followed by Oregon, Stanford, Arizona State and Utah, respectively.

Rounding out the remaining Pac-12 schools were Oregon State, Colorado, Washington, California and Washington State.

Media have correctly picked the Pac-12 winner in 15 of 25 previous tries, while the winner has been accurately chosen in 17 of the 28 all-time preseason votes.

The Pac-12 will carry considerable momentum into the 2017-18 campaign after sending a record seven teams to the 2016 NCAA Tournament and finishing with three teams ranked among the nation's top 10 in 2017.

Last year, the Bruins went 31-5 overall and logged a 15-3 mark in Pac-12 play. UCLA advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 for the third time in four seasons. Last June, UCLA had three players from its 2016-17 roster chosen in the NBA Draft.

This season's UCLA squad returns seniors Thomas Welsh and G.G. Goloman and junior Aaron Holiday, three players who played critical roles one year ago. In addition, the Bruins welcome a seven-man incoming class that has been rated as high as No. 5 in the nation.

The 2017-18 season will begin on Friday, Nov. 10, with 10 games as part of Pac-12 Networks' Full Court Friday, as well as the Bruins taking on Georgia Tech in the 2017 Pac-12 China Game on ESPN.

UCLA's game against Georgia Tech will tip-off at 8:30 p.m. (PT) on Friday, Nov. 10 – adjusted for a 16-hour time change, that is a 12:30 p.m. start in Shanghai on Saturday, Nov. 11. Tickets for the Bruins' game in Shanghai will go on sale on Friday, Oct. 13 (for more information, click here).
