Peng-Peng Lee Named Finalist for AAI Award

UCLA's Christine Peng-Peng Lee has been selected as one of 10 finalists for the AAI Award, which is presented to the most outstanding senior female gymnast in the country.

Lee joins Kennedy Baker (Florida), Brianna Brown (Michigan), Dani Dessaints (Oregon State), Cami Drouin-Allaire (George Washington), Myia Hambrick (LSU), AJ Jackson (Oklahoma), Alex McMurtry (Florida), Elizabeth Price (Stanford) and Kiana Winston (Alabama) as finalists for the prestigious award, which will be announced at the NCAA Championship banquet in April. In its history, UCLA has had four winners – Vanessa Zamarripa in 2013, Jamie Dantzscher in 2004, Mohini Bhardwaj in 2001 and Donna Kemp in 1984.

Lee has had a standout 2018 season, scoring a national-best four perfect 10s on balance beam and five perfect 10s overall. On Mar. 11 at Stanford, she had a perfect meet, scoring a 10 on both events on which she competed (uneven bars and balance beam). She scored her latest perfect 10 on beam at the Pac-12 Championships to win her first career conference title. Lee was also honored as the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, becoming UCLA's second-ever winner of that award. She set a Pac-12 record with nine career Specialist of the Week awards, including five in 2018. The 2017 West Region Gymnast of the Year finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the nation on balance beam and No. 9 on uneven bars. The eight-time All-American and 2017 Scholastic All-American will be graduating this year with a degree in sociology.
