UCLA’s Coach Forsyth Signs New Three-Year Contract

August 22, 2022 | Women's Golf

LOS ANGELES – UCLA has signed women's golf head coach Carrie Forsyth to a new three-year contract extension, it was announced today by Martin Jarmond, the Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics. Forsyth was named the head coach of the UCLA Women's Golf Team in 1999 and begins her 24th season in 2022-23.

She just led the Bruins to a quarterfinal finish in the match play portion of the 2022 NCAA Championships. Forsyth's Bruins have now advanced past the regional round and into the NCAA Championships in 20 of her 22 seasons in Westwood, winning the program's second and third national titles in 2004 and 2011. UCLA also won the NCAA team stroke play title in 2016 and 2018.

"Carrie has sustained excellence in the women's golf program for more than two decades, building UCLA women's golf into a national power," Jarmond said. "She has had a huge impact on the success of our student-athletes on and off the course and continues to produce golfers that play in the professional ranks. I'm incredibly pleased to have Carrie's elite level mindset remain in Westwood."

Forsyth has won 73 tournaments and five conference titles.

"I am honored and excited to continue my role as head coach of the UCLA women's golf program," Forsyth said. "I look forward to continuing our tradition of excellence and success as one of the top golf teams in the country."

From 2004 to 2012, Forsyth went on a remarkable run of 11 straight top three finishes at both the Pac-10/12 Championships and NCAA Regionals. She was named Golfweek National Coach of the Year in 2011 and the WGCA National Coach of the Year in 2014 after the Bruins claimed their third NCAA Regional victory over the previous four seasons and seventh over the last 11.

Forsyth has produced two ANNIKA Award winners, which is annually given to the top female Division I collegiate golfer, in Alison Lee (2014) and Bronte Law (2016) as well as two PING WGCA Player of the Year honorees in Law (2016) and Lilia Vu (2018).

Fourteen UCLA golfers have hauled in 27 WGCA First Team All-American Awards under Forsyth's tutelage. Most recently, Emma Spitz became the fourth player in program history to be named to the first team three times in a career.

Forsyth has produced dozens of Bruins into the professional ranks. Currently, three Bruins rank in the season-long top 50 of the Race to CME Globe competition: Lilia Vu (30), Patty Tavatanakit (39) and Alison Lee (43). Tavatanakit is the reigning LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year.
