Bruins Travel to Monterey for The Molly Collegiate Invitational

SEASIDE, Calif. -- The No. 9 UCLA women's golf team will play its second tournament of the season in Monterey Bay at The Molly Collegiate Invitational hosted by The Bayonet.
The Bruins open with 36 holes on Monday, Sept. 27, and conclude with another 18 holes on Tuesday, Sept. 28. Live Scoring updates for The Molly Collegiate Invitational will be available online at Golfstat.com.
UCLA's starting fivesome includes senior Simar Singh, junior Annabel Wilson, sophomore Ty Akabane and freshmen Zoe Antoinette Campos and Alessia Nobilio. Junior Emilie Paltrinieri will be competing individually. Monday's tee times will begin at 8 a.m. PT and Tuesday's tee times will start at 1 p.m. PT.
Wilson will be making her season debut after recording four Top 10 finishes and leading the Bruins with a T-7th place finish at the Pac-12 Championships last season. Nobilio, ranked in the Top 10 of the Women's Amateur Golf Ranking in 2020 and a Italian National Team member, will step onto the links for the first time in a Bruin uniform.
Joining UCLA in the 15-team field are three Pac-12 foes including No. 1 Stanford, Cal and Oregon State. New Mexico, San Jose State, Nebraska, Nevada, UC Davis, Cal Poly, UNLV, San Francisco, Fresno State, Sacramento State and Cal State Monterey Bay will also be competing.
The Bruins have not competed on The Bayonet since the course's remodel in 2008.
Recapping the ANNIKA Intercollegiate
Canales opened the tournament at 3-under 69 featuring five birdies, three of which coming on Par-5s, in the first round of her UCLA career. She went on to pace the Bruin field scoring 69-77-73 in her three rounds (+3, 219). Junior Emma Spitz and Akbane posted UCLA's best scores on day two with a pair of 1-over 72s with five birdies between them in the round.
Canales finished her first collegiate tournament with three birdies in her 1-over 72 in round three to lead the Bruins at 25th place in the field (+3, 219). Akbane went 72-74-74 to put her at 4-over (220) in her first action in over a year. Campos rounded out the field at 8-over, 224 in her three rounds.
The Bruins collectively finished 10th at 18-over 882.
