LOS ANGELES – The No. 13 UCLA women's tennis team picked up a 4-1 victory No. 20 Washington on Friday afternoon at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
It was the seventh-straight victory for UCLA (9-3, 5-0), which cruised to an early doubles point and battled for the three necessary singles point in matches that went deep into the afternoon. The Bruins won both set tiebreakers on the day and picked up singles wins in both straight sets and three sets to achieve the team victory.
UCLA took care of business in the doubles competition to start the day. Sasha Vagramov and Kimmi improved to 9-1 on the year with their 6-2 victory on Court 3 over Kelly Leung and Zoey Weil of Washington. The Bruins also made quick work of Court 1, as Elysia Bolton and Elise Wagle notched a 6-0 win over Vanessa Wong and Nika Zupancic to secure the doubles point.
Vanessa Ong made quick work of Leung on Court 6 at the start of singles play, taking the 6-3, 6-2 straight-sets victory to give the Bruins their first singles point of the afternoon. After Bolton was defeated on Court 2, Forbes answered right back with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win on Court 1 over Wong.
Elise Wagle earned the deciding fourth point for the Bruins, defeating Hikaru Sato on Court 4. Hance earned her 10th singles win of the season after suffering a 4-6 loss in the second set, battling back to take a 7-5 win in the clinching third set.
Vagramov and Hance both battled into the third set of their respective matches. Both matches were abandoned after Wagle's clinching win.
The Bruins are right back in action at LATC on Saturday, April 2 with a matchup against Washington State. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. PT.
